On Canon F-1N cameras, the power winder had an offset tightening knob (with internal
gears I suppose) so that the tripod hole on the winder was directly beneath the
original hole on the body. On the BP-300, the tightening knob is directly beneath
the body hole.
I recently returned from a rail photo trip in Switzerland. I used my Elan 7e/BP-300
combination with a monopod. At first it felt unusual compared to my F-1 but I had no
problems and the pictures were fabulous. The hole is offset toward the camera
handgrip so the flexing forces are minimized.
