Julian,

I am basing that comment on something I read somewhere on the web (how's that
for vague) about the camera needing to be centered on the tripod - on the lens
axis - for shooting panoramas.

Whether this is an absolute necessity or not I'm not sure, but it seemed as
though it made sense.  As I recall, the article mentioned that if the shots
weren't lined up on the lens axis, they would be harder to stitch together due
to some kind of perspective change.

I've never done one (panorama) so I may have put my foot where it doesn't belong
with that comment, but that wouldn't be the first time.

Or course, now I'm curious.  Is that considered necessary?

I'm sure someone reading this who's done that sort of thing will chime in with
an explanation.
