The lens mount of the 50/1.8 mk II is plastic. But the old one, the 50/1.8 mk I,
has a metal mount (and a non-rotating front element and a distance scale...).
Optical quality is the same (as far as I know...). It can be found used (I
bought one just two weeks ago!). Since the Mk I is considered the 'better' build
lens, here in the Netherlands a used Mk I is almost as expensive as a new Mk II.
