Hi Ken,
Well they do go pretty high - I sold my 50 1.8 MkI for
$152.50 on eBay in June - with original box &
packaging. It was as good as the day that it was made
with not an imperfection on it.
I was tossing up whether to sell my 50 1.4 USM or the
MkI. I kept the 1.4 as I figured I'd get maybe twice
as much for the 1.4 which had an original price
something like 5 times the 1.8. I think I made the
right choice!
I bought mine as a set with an EOS 630 (also
absolutely mint with box etc) and sold the body alone
for more than I paid for the body and lens.
My favourites are the people who are paying 20%-50%
more for lenses on eBay than they can get them (brand
new) from B&H or other retailers - don't they check
the value of the item they're bidding on? (These are
typically Canon and particularly Nikkor 75-300G entry
level zooms).
I can (to an extent) understand the value of the 50
MkI's as there are only so many good ones around, and
limited supply with lots of demand forces the price
up. But brand new widely available lenses? Heck,
I've even seen the odd *used* 50 1.8 Mk II sell for
over $100 on eBay.
Regards
Gary
