I don't think you'll wear the lens-mount out... The lens itself is more likely to come 
apart (I know of two people where this has been the case)... The only real advantage I 
know with the 50/1.8 is that it's dirt cheap... The 50/1.4 brings out more detail 
(sharper), has better color correctness, FullTimeManual focusing and WAY better 
build-quality (it weighs quite a bit for it's size, has a metal lens-mount, a 
distance-scale and the front element doesn't rotate)...
