Hi Harrison, 

I have used the Tamron 28-105mm F2.8 (uses an 82mm filter).
Optically it is absolutely stunning and every bit as good than the 28-70L.
It is "the" preferred lens for the Fujifilm Finepix S1 digital SLR.
I have used it both with an EOS film SLR and Fuji's digital SLR. 
AF is OK, but not great. If you are using it for action you will miss shots.
For stills, portraits, etc. a great lens.
