The reason for the AF being a bit slow is the mass of the lens which does slow the AF mechanism. Its not dog slow, but when you are use to USM all is slow (except the new Minolta 7, very fast AF tested 1st hand). I mean you can't do race cars or runners with it. You will like optical results though, they are 1st rate.
