The Arca-Swiss is indeed one solution, but expensive :o(

I just bought a Gitzo 2380 lightweight video head for using with 70-200/2.8
and 300/4 lenses. This works by fluid friction, and once set up and levelled
(using the built-in bubble level) requires no loosening to alter the
shooting angle. I found there was no creep using an EOS-1v with PB-E2 and
300/4 with x1.4 converter.

Best of all, its cheap. cost me UK130 compared to over 400 for the
Arca-Swiss here!
