I just picked up a Canon EF 100-400/4,5-5,6L IS USM. Great lens, but heavier than my 75-300 IS.
My problem is that I can't lock the head tight enough. I think the solution is a ball head. I'm using a Bogen 3443 #441 carbon tripod with the Bogen Magnesium 3D Head 3437. I've always used a 3D head, but I think the 100-400 is overloading it. The head moves no matter how tight I crank.
