That's the only thing I'm not satisfied with this lens. at 28mm the barrel distortion on the edges is quite heavy. But one gets used to it and I also adjust my framing so that if possible there are no straight lines on the very edge of the image. As for sharpness.. Well I'm amateur and don't have that much of experience of variety of lenses. Went trough my slides yesterday and one of the IS shots was taken at 135mm wide open and about 1/6sec. It was sharp enough for me. Not incredibly sharp as at F/8.0 but the picture doesn't look soft to me. I noted on one pic that I couldn't read the text when watching the slide at 4 meters (too small), but when I went next to the screen, I could read it. I was amazed by the sharpness of the lens and Provia 100F.
