I agree with both sides ;-) Both would be useful lenses - for different 
purposes. And I don't think it is necessary to have both the f/2.8 and IS 
in one lens, although this one would also have some nice applications.
But I very much prefer an affordable lens with some compromises ...

The 28-70 f/2.8L is a wonderful lens, now if it would be a 28-105 ...
