I got to the CPS meetings if time permits, and try to make my complaints heard, hoping this will be a step in the right direction. However, this is sometimes futile. We all would love to have our cameras save the images in the orientation they were shot. Canon on the other hand dropped the orientation sensor because the hotline was literally flooded with requests if there was anything broken because some nuts heard the sensor click (like it must for operation). So sometimes the requirements of a skilled pro might terminally confuse beginners. > Will they every directly respond to complaints? Canon CPS Germany does discuss issues, and they try to calm you down, but I am sure that they file every complaint and send most of it to Japan. The feedback from Japan ist more of a problem, I guess. > I mean, this might be terribly naive of me but > why didn't Canon inform us about the limitations > of the D30/550EX combo? I think they optimized for certain very narrow ranges of conditions and never imagined what one could try to do with a flash. > I understand that the D30 was Canon's first proper > foray into the digital field Not really, they have a track record from the co-operation with Kodak, which now spawned the 1D. > - but you point out that both of Canon's other digitals, > the D60 and the 1D, have similar 550EX problems. Don't have first hand experience with flash on the 1D, but the D60 uses the same flash circuit as the D30. > Why didn't they develop a flash that would > work with the digitals? Since the competition has nothing comparable, the problem is not that big. > Now, I'm going to go investigate that Metz. Good idea. I will also order one, because it can use smaller f-stops than my older Metz guns.
