Any problems with E-TTL would be the fault of the camera body alone - the flash just follows commands based on the body's evaluative metering. And, E-TTL should work just as well with a digital body as with a "type A" film body (Elan II, EOS 3, EOS 1v, etc.). (I know that the film/E-TTL combos are not without criticism) FWIW, I have had no problems with the 550EX/D60 combo. I greatly prefer "OTF" TTL or E-TTL over flash-sensor speedlites.
