Any problems with E-TTL would be the fault of the camera body alone - the
flash just follows commands based on the body's evaluative metering.
And, E-TTL should work just as well with a digital body as with a "type
A" film body (Elan II, EOS 3, EOS 1v, etc.). (I know that the film/E-TTL
combos are not without criticism)

FWIW, I have had no problems with the 550EX/D60 combo. I greatly prefer
"OTF" TTL or E-TTL over flash-sensor speedlites.
