I nearly always use slide film (mainly, but not exclusively, Velvia and
Provia). I also shoot black and white negatives, which I develop myself.
I've had the slide films developed at several different labs. When I
wondered whether I was mistaken, I had clip tests done, and the lab
confirmed that the film was underexposed, and compensated for it in the
processing. But actually none of this is really a big problem. I was mainly
just responding to someone's questions about EOS 3 exposure. Then it
occurred to me that perhaps someone on the list might know a reliable place
to have the meters adjusted, given that I have not been very impressed with
Canon's Irvine facility. The bottom line is that my cameras underexpose by
a known amount, and I compensate for that by changing the ISO setting of
the films that I use. As Jim pointed out, it's rather underwhelming that
Canon can't get this kind of thing right on an expensive camera, but I can
live with it.
