I'm just going on the basis of Alex's comparison. He seemed to be having a certain 
amount of trouble with it in low light. I was basically asking for details.

Yes, I know how passive AF works.

The Minolta 7 does have very, very good passive AF ability in low light. Its a known 
phenomenon. It's one of the reasons I liked mine so much.

Yes, I know it has no effect. I was asking so I could get a sense of how low the light 
was where the problem occurred with Alex's EOS 3 and the 28-135 lens. 

And just after I typed that, my EOS 3 arrived. I now need to go through the manual and 
find out how to use the thing. I may be some time...
