Hi Peter, nice to hear from you. Although we used different lenses, both were set to the same zoom settings of either 70mm or 35mm to allows similar aperture settings. The Minolta 7'th and 800si'th AF sensitivity is similar to one of EOS-3 (at least declared one) = 0-18 EV. BTW, of course, I didn't mean to rush out right know to get rid of 28-135 in favor of 28-70 L, not yet. :-) First I have to get the flash (550EX) which I intent to do during these two weeks, the next step is hunting for some good 70-200/2.8 which might be either Sigma APO EX HSM or used 70-200/2.8 L (might take several months though). As you can imagine, after all these sharp moves, by budget will be seriously exhausted so I'll settle down for a while learning and enjoying the full capabilities of this 28-135... Then, if I'll find my way into one, I'll probably will leave it with me as a backup or travel lens once being able to shell out some cash for 28/24-70 L.

If you were at 135 in dim light and your friend at 70mm in dim light he would have an easier time as you would be at F5.6 and he at perhaps F4.5. Do not underestimate the 28-135mm IS lens. It is a terrific lens and personally it was my choice over the much discussed 28-70mm F2.8L. Why? IS and 135mm were two defining reasons. Before you rush off and sell your lens, take a look at the specs of the 800si v. the EOS3 and see if the AF is more sensitive on one versus another. Unless you use the same lens on each camera, say a 85mm F1.8, it is not a fair comparison.
