Just read on certain website that the 70-200/2.8L USM IS is somewhat superior to it's predecessor (no IS) in terms of optical quality, even though having more internal elements. Can somebody confirm that ? Did they really further enhanced optical design producing the IS version so it is even better optically then the regular version ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------- Alex, You seem to be looking for the holy grail. Those I know who own the IS say it is a bit sharper, focuses closer but weighs 1/3 lbs. more. The major benefit is IS with this focal length. What are you going to be using the lens for? That may help determine if you need IS or not.
