Alex,

You seem to be looking for the holy grail. 
Those I know who own the IS say it is a bit sharper, focuses closer but
weighs 1/3 lbs. more.
The major benefit is IS with this focal length. What are you going to be
using the lens for?
That may help determine if you need IS or not.
