It has been documented.
MF can indeed be more accurate than AF.

I've not tested this with D30 / D60 but on the 1n reproducibility of
focus point (judged my distance marks) can be almost perfect by eye.
AF, throws surprises.  I have a link to some tests on this - I'll post
them if I remeber where I filed them
