I don't know about that. I'm sure that, yes, AF systems are going to have a margin of error that isn't going to be present when a very skilled and experienced photographer uses manual focussing under decent lighting conditions with some form of reliable split-circle MF assist aid. But I find that I generally have fewer focus problems with AF than I did using old MF gear, mainly because it takes me a really long time to focus. So for stuff like landscapes my slow focussing speed wasn't an issue, but it meant that I had real problems getting candids and stuff before I switched to AF.

Anyway. Unless you're shooting wide open all the time I bet depth of field will compensate for this issue much of the time.
