Hello dear list members,
I then packed my Sigma zoom in my down jacket to warm it up. When my
colleague needed his zoom a while later, I tried out my Sigma and it
worked as usual. So the autofocus failure must have been caused by the
low temperatures. BTW: as body, I use a EOS 3, and I had no problems
with any other lenses I had with me, though they have been in the cold
also (including a Sigma 17-35 HSM).

If I had the money, I would immediately switch to the Canon lens...
Marco, just last week I asked a question of Canon versus Sigma at the 17-35mm size. The responses were almost totally in favor of getting the Sigma due to cost. But now you have me worried. While I don't normally shoot at temperatures below -10 Celsius, I am worried that the Sigma wide-zoom could also stop functioning. You said that you didn't have troubles with it on your expedition, but I wonder now if the lubricants used in Sigma lenses (including HSM high-end lenses) may be inferior to Canon's lubricants.

If you or any other member has any more input on this, please let me know - I haven't ordered the Sigma yet.
