(I know this is off-topic, but...)

I was invited to a fashion show to shoot some pictures of a friend who
would be walking. I had my EOS 3 with the PB-E2 and the 550EX, the
28-105/3.5-4.5 and the 70-200/2.8L and some ISO 800 film.

Happily shot the first 36 pictures (the show was about to end), but in
the stress of more models coming and the roll was finished, I managed
to open the door before the film was rewinded...

That's when you know you're an amatur. Or an idiot.

Good thing there was a professional there who got the pictures.

*bangs head on table*

I did put in another roll which I got about 10 pictures on before the
show ended, but those were shots made in desperation. This is the
first time I've opened the door too soon. Of course, it has to happen
at such a moment.

In a stressy/noisy environment, the only way to prevent this is either experience & almost instinctive safety procedures (, or holding the body in your hand, so that you can *feel* the rewind-
motor operating....

Also, one gets much more respect for open doors when operating Kodak HIE infrared (darkloading)....the mental threshold to open that door is very high, even with normal films....;))
I do occasionally shoot with infrared film, using chaning bag and all
that. I usually only do nature photography, where I work slowly with
a tripod and the quitness means I can hear when the camera is done
rewinding. So, this experience was pretty much completely opposite of
what I'm used to.

PS: *real* amateurs get bodies that expose the film in reverse, winding it back into the cartridge with each shot....;))

Actually, it's baffling why Canon didn't make *this* 'feature' subject to a CF or SCF on the higher grade bodies....
(of course, you probably still wouldn't have selected it, as you were no such amateur, right?....;))
Hehe.. I did actually look up in my EOS 3 manual after this disaster
to see if I could do this. I do very much consider myself and amateur too (after all, I'm not making any money on this).

But I've been burnt once now. Hopefully I've learned the lesson.
