For a 6MP camera, that's five (5) 1 GByte
cards, if you don't delete any files
while traveling ...

In my experience, I need two 1500 mAh
batteries per 1Gig microdrive, which makes
for a total of 10 batteries, still less
space, albeit heavier, than 20 rolls of
135. And no x-ray mess to worry about.

Personally, I'd rather just bring one
or two sets of batteries and take the
charger along, and recharge overnight.
To save money ...

But this whole discussion really is mute.
Somebody who wants to do digital will do
so, and people who oppose the idea won't.
Peroid. Digital doesn't make film any
less usable, and vice-versa.

When I got my D30 originally, I shot
nearly 15000 frames in just over a year,
which is close to $4000 dollars worth
of film and processing saved, not even
counting the time saved for scanning.
In effect, the D30 paid for itself
within 16 months.

I also noticed that I didn't shoot film
at all any more, so I sold of nearly
$1000 worth of E6 and B&W neg film.

(Film was getting a nightmare to me
anyways. I still have cartons and
cartons of slides which I got back from
processing, but never found the time
to archive.)

Eventually I upgraded to the D60 -
wow, twice the MP at nearly half the
cost! But was my D30 less usable?
No. I kept it as a backup, and also
as a camera for my GF to take pictures
for her web business.

Now that I see a 10D at the horizon,
I'll finally sell the D30, and it
will go a good way towards financing
the 10D.

The D60 will work well for my GF's
tabletops, and it will be a more
equal backup for the 10D.
