Many, many years ago I was knocked down while
photographing a sporting event (no, not by a player). 
I landed ON the front lens element of my 50mm 1.4 FD
lens, mounted on a Canon FTb, with all my weight on
top.  Actually took a chip out of the front element.

I put a little bit of black paint in the chip, and
continued to use that lens and body for years. 
Couldn't see any problem with the images unless I was
shooting a test chart.

Don't build 'em like they used to, I guess.
