Hi,
I took the lens in to Sigma UK last Thursday, and have just had a repair
estimate from them for 75 GBP. Before taking the lens in for repair and
conscious that the 17-35 was reputed to suffer from a softness on the RHS, I did
some tests to decide whether it was worth even this reasonable expenditure.
The softness is clearly apparent when images are viewed at 100%, and I've posted
a height reduced, full width crop on my website (item 13, if you're interested).
However, I can't see any evidence of softness when I've printed to A4 and whilst
I can print to A3, I don't do it very often. So I'll go ahead with the repair
and save the purchase of a Sigma 15-30 (somewhat too large, I feel) or EF 17-40L
(about 8x the repair cost) to a later day!

I would like an excuse for an L zoom though! So far, all my Ls are primes.

(Canon are charging me 70GBP to fix the duff aperture motor on my carry-about
EF80-200 f4.5-5.6 II which failed earlier the same day.)
