Nothing as simple as a loose connector, from the way it felt!
The zoom ring would only rotate less than half-way from 17 to about 24, and
manual focus was also unusable, as was the HSM. I still can't get over the
minute marks to the stainless steel lens mount - even knowing what had happened,
I found it difficult to see the damage.

Sigma's repair quote lists: repair zoom, repair focus mech., reset, check &
test. I'll let you know how it is when I get it back. Just hope they have the
necessary parts in the UK.

(As a side issue but obviously related to my incident, has anyone else felt that
non-Canon lenses are just that little bit less secure when being mounted /
de-mounted from camera bodies?)
