Hey all,

I was just wondering if anyone had tried various focusing screens in
their
EOS 3 or other with removable screens.

I just installed the screen Ec. I really like it at first glance, and
will
have to see how it works out over the week. Adding in a prism just
seemed
like something to try, as I have been bouncing around on thoughts for a
new
portrait lens. I seem to be going in the direction of buying a Contax
85/1.4 manual focus and adapter (maybe 5-700$ range). I just have
issues
with spending two grand on the canon equivalent and waiting for a slow
focus
from all reports.

Either way though, I like to be able to fine tune a focus, so this
should be
just the ticket:)

Robert,

Before you consider the $700 for an 85mm f1.4 (granted it is a good
lens), consider the Canon 85mm F1.8. At about $300-350 it is an
excellent lens. Typically you would not use F1.4 for portraits (unless
you are a PJ, they like the soft out of focus nose and ears look) but
would stop down a bit. In Studio the middle apertures of the two lenses
are both very good. Sharpness (and of course the bokeh) is excellent
with both and the 85mm1.8 is a very fast AF-ing lens. Need more focal
length the Canon EF 100mm F2 or better still the EF 135m F2L. The 135 is
about $750-900 used/new and is an exceptionally fast focusing and sharp
lens. May be too sharp for female portraits. Shows far too many skin
blemishes and wrinkles, you'll need a soft filter.
