The EOS 10D has a "Communication" option in the menu for "Normal" or "PTP".
In both modes, it's possible to grab the files directly off of the camera
using Explorer.  The D60 also appears as a mass storage device, but doesn't
have a Normal/PTP switch (which I believe is the same for the D30).

All said, I strongly agree that a firewire or USB2 reader is the way to go,
your batteries and time constraints will thank you.
