Canon has said, over and over again, from many
different locations, that they intend to maintain all
three crop factors (1.6, 1.3 and FF). But why should
we believe them. After all, they have lots of
incentive to lie, and angering your customers is
always good business practice.

As for the 10-22 becoming a "quite expensive
paperweight," that's simply untrue. Even if Canon does
some day drop the 1.6x form factor, there will be lots
of 20Ds, 300Ds, 350Ds (and probably other 1.6x bodies
yet to come) that will work with that lens for years
to come. Even if I upgrade to a 1.3X or FF body some
day, there will be a large market for used EF-S lenses
for many years.
