Maybe not the answer you want to hear, but here it goes anyway: Go and get
one of those mini-tripods. You'll find plenty of spaces to put your camera
on massive stone bridge railings, banks of the Seine etc... The city is
lighted VERY well - you'll be amazed at what shutter speeds you'll be able
to take your shots!

Personally I've been to Paris for business only and I never had the chance
to take a lot of daytime pictures. Neither did I have the chance to bring a
tripod. But with one of these small tripods or even a beanbag, you'll be
fine!

Get a bunch of Metro tickets (10 I believe) and a free metro map for that's
the easiest way to get around. You'll end up near all the sites you'll want
to visit. http://www.ratp.info/orienter/cv/carteparis.php

BTW, Make sure you attach your camera with an anchor chain to your waist ;-)

But enjoy your stay there!!!

Cheers, Stefan
