I've been shooting with the 1Ds for a little over 2 yrs, I can not
imagine that 1.5 mega pixels would make that much difference. I just read a
study done comparing the Hassie Digital (H1D) with the 16.8 Canon MKII and
there was a clear difference when you went from 16.8 up to 22 and a larger
sensor. The main difference being in speed of handling (Canon won) and ease
of software use as well as second company vendor software (Phase One) to do
the processing (again Canon won) but when it came to over all sharpness and
the like then the Hassie won. The other point that I would make is just look
at the difference in the bodies-I wonder what the built quality is
like(compared to the 1Ds), mine is built like a tank. The 5D looks like it
is on same level as the 20D-not that there is anything wrong with that (I
use the 20D too and it is a fine tool). But I really think that is where we
should be comparing.
Unless you can sell your 1Ds for what you paid for it and buy 2 -
5D's I would wait for the 22 meg 1DsMKIIn that I'm sure will be on the scene
in the next 18 months.
