Vast majority of the stuff I shoot, including horse jumping, auto racing,
airshow etc. benefit hugely from the 8.5 fps, I could be disciplined and
capture just single frame of the action as I do when shooting film (to
conserve cost), but the action moment doesn't happen all the time and I
would more likely than not loose the keeper shot if I don't shoot bursts.

I do use single frame mode with portrait and stills which is not common, but
I'm getting pretty good at squeezing off only one frame (at most two) even
in high speed mode, so I keep the camera at high speed mode most of the time
because while I can squeeze off one frame in high speed mode, I cannot
possibly get 8.5 fames in one second in the single frame mode when the
action starts to happen.

A tool is used according to the needs, and you are right we are all
different with different priorities in mind.
