Are there any downside? I can't think of any and that's why I just leave it set at all times, it has no effect on power winder mode anyway which is 80% of my normal shooting mode. BTW, that P.Fn was cleared out by the Canon technician so I had to re-enable it again last night, and noticed that not only the initial shutter open/close sound is very quiet, even the mirror return after I released the shutter is also much more subdued compared to the "S-L-A-P" sound when this P.Fn is disabled, it almost seems the mirror return mechanism is deliberately slowed down while in this P.Fn mode. Kind of like second curtain flash sync, I leave it on at all times because I can't think of any reason not to.
