Subject: Re: EOS My stuff and wedding

The one thing that I always see new wedding photographers make a mention over is how much camera equipment they have and are going to take. They never mention how they plan on using it or what they are going to try and capture the day of the wedding and what it will mean to the bride, groom and their families. First time out you need to keep things as simple as possible. The best shots are the events that happen when your changing lens. Then I hate to tell you this but 9 times out of 10 you have been asked to take the photos as they know you have a camera and "Marco is a good guy and he won't charge us for this". They don't want to or can not pay a photographer who does this for a living. God help you if you blow this- friendship is "OVER"!

My father had a very sage comment on this very subject, "The best way to lose a friend is to shoot his wedding." My rule of thumb is to never photograph a wedding to which we would be invited. Since my wife and I shoot weddings, I have had several "friends" ask us to do theirs, of course at a steep "friendly" discount. This rule avoids that issue. If they really are good enough friends to invite us to the wedding, then, generally, either they wouldn't ask us in the first place, or they certainly understand our feelings on the matter. Hey, we just want to have fun with our friends, not have the pressure of getting all the important images and forego socializing, which is the only choice. If they are not good enough friends to invite us to their wedding, then they certainly don't qualify for the "friendly" discount...
