I've only done one wedding as a secondary shooter, but I do other
events, and the one thing I'd say is don't plan on having any time for
that sort of thing. These things take on a life of their own and you
want to be there every minute.

You need to have enough cards, film, camera batteries and flash
batteries on your person to last the entire shoot plus some. Use 36
exposure rolls to keep the number of changes down. Likewise use the
largest cards you're comfortable with. It all needs to be in a bag or a
pocket where you can grab it easily. Know where your exposed vs.
unexposed film goes & how to make sure you're grabbing an unused card.
Practice before the wedding if you aren't used to shooting like this.

If there is a lull in the action, by all means review some shots, to
check for general exposure, sharpness & such so you can make mid-course
corrections. Equally important, use the opportunity to change out a
card or roll of film that doesn't have too many frames left, or to swap
out low battery(s). Last thing you want is they start cutting the cake
and you're down to your last few frames/megabytes, or the power runs
out.
