I have watched this thread a little bit and figured I'd give some
input as well.
Personally seeing as to the equipment you have (I also have a 20d
with 580)
I would get the Lightsphere ASAP... It replaced my umbrellas in many
situations.
But even without it you can produce decent results, I would tilt the
flash slightly higher so it doesn't overexpose the floor in front of
the couple. (10-15 degrees) Dont do that on close ups though since
you would have some light fall off on the bottom of the frame. Also
I would not use 3200, its to "grainy" IMO... Use 800 at the most for
indoors... I hope you have a tripod!
Measure the ambient light around the subject set your camera to 1/2 -
1 stop below that so there isn't so much of a "on camera flash look"
to your photos. Don't be afraid to use 1/8 - 1/15 sec @ 5.6 (just
as long as its not an action shot *doh*) but your flash would freeze
any small movements. Check your histogram to make sure its not too
dark/light then let your flash fill in the foreground.
Focusing... Zoom in on your subject, focus, hold your focus button
down, zoom out then shoot. Great way to get the sharpest shot every
time.
I'll bill you later for my .02 ;o)
