Hi Tom, thanks for the response. That sounds encouraging. From what
I see the EZ Color suite *includes* the Optics XR, so I'm unclear on
why one would be discouraged from buying it. I'm also under the
impression that the Optics XR will only create a monitor profile -
that to profile the scanner and printer you need the EZColor. How is
your printer "profiled' with only the Optic XR? Sorry of these are
confused questions, it's because I'm confused!

Ken,
I use a Monaco Optix XR, which is supposed to be better than the EZ
Color (which I was recommended NOT to buy). I got it for $165 brand
new on That Auction Site. I was a bit sceptical at first as I was
using the profiles that Sony provided for my monitor. I was stunned by
the difference!!
I've shot some college hockey of the University of Washington team.
The team colors are purple and gold. However, on my monitor they'd
show up as navy blue and gold. After color calibration, my Huskies are
now purple and gold like they should be.
It also seems like I can see more shadow detail than I could before
the calibration. The colors in general seem more true to life. Or at
least closer to what I remember them to be when I took the shot. When
I print on my profiled Epson R2400, there's a high degree of
correlation between what I see on the monitor and what comes out of
the printer.
Needless to say, I'm a pretty happy camper. To me it was worth the $165...
