Ken, I started out using a colorvision spyder a few years a go but have recently upgraded to the monaco Ezcolor XR optic pro mainly because it can handle Multiple monitor setups.
I find it works well. The addition of Profile Prism from Mike Chaney of Qimage (highly reccommended) fame (www.ddisoftware.com) was especially useful when the majority of my printing was done on my epson 1270 but gets less use now I use the Designjet 130. It produced good color profiles for my 1270 using my epson 1640 and was relatively inexpensive. The latest version is much easier to use as well as giving lots of oiptions for adjustment. I also use mike's profiles for my Canon 5D mainly bacause I have been so pleased with Qimage. Mike also writes some pretty good articles on tech subjects (printing, profiling and colormanagement) for the laymen over at steve's digicams. Regards.
