I don't have much of an interest in either the 30D or the Rebel series but
following this thread I'm wondering what Canon was thinking? Every Canon SLR
I've owned, film or digital, has had two main control dials, pretty much out
of necessity: one controls the shutter speed while the other controls the
aperture. They do other things at certain times but why would Canon remove a
seemingly necessary control?

Does the Rebel have only the idiot-proof settings (Automatic, Landscape,
Portrait, Sports, etc...) so that you can't ever control both settings
thereby eliminating the need for two control dials?
