Every Canon SLR I've owned, film or digital, has had two main control dials, pretty much out of necessity: one controls the shutter speed while the other controls the aperture. They do other things at certain times but why would Canon remove a seemingly necessary control?
I don't believe that any of the film Rebels had had a real control dial either. My Rebel 2000 didn't.
