Yes, some models are better than others. The more expensive the better the hardware inside. All of your 1-series cameras are going to have the fastest autofocus available at that time be it a Canon 1D or Nikon D1. For quite a while I had a 1D with a 10D as backup and the 1D was faster in daylight and substantially faster in low light.
