I wouldn't offer myself as an example of a picture taker since I mostly fiz and collect. I've practiced how to use them but have never actually thought of doing so for any real reason! When I first heard of the feature I assumed that you could select multiple points and the camera would stop down your lens and focus such tht all the points were in focus. That seemed like a great alternative to the aperture preferred focus mode on my old film EOS. Unfortunately it wasn't the case. I also have a Contax N1 hich allows you to shift the focus point using a joystick (more like a joy button!) It's upper, lower, left and right. Pushing straight down takes it bacl to centre. I have used this occasionally because it's easier and the need for it can arise in some portrait/still life situations. So I guess it can be a useful feature if it's easily usable. Unfortunately the EOS zero buttons approach has been taken to an extreme and a camera that coud once be handled nicely in 650 days has become a camera with too few controls for its capabilities. Darned shame too since it's gotta be happening because some nut job at Canon must have a design philosophy thing going, sort of like the samurai batallion of WW2 who fought only with swords. To make matters worse, the EOS finder sucks on available info. You can't even tell what mode your in! Javier
