I've always stuck to center point focusing, even on the 35 point bodies like

The few times I didn't set a new camera that way, it only took a few days to
lose shots and I would then go change it.

For years I've used the central focus point and recompose. With my
Rebel film cameras, it was difficult to know where the focus was.
Since going digital, 350D, I can see where the focus is so now I'm
using all of them. 95% of the time, it gets it right... but I don't
shoot weddings, though.
When in tricky focus situations, where the camera misses it, I set up
my camera so if I press the select focus button and then the OK
button, the central focus point will be selected. I then focus and
recompose. If I repeat the process, auto focus point will be selected
again. I find this process very useful and easy.
