I love my 24-70L on my 5D. I would definitely buy the 17-55 for a 1.6x
camera. Boy do I wish the 24-70L had IS!

This is the most helpful advice so for. I suspect I'd rather the
17-24. Forgetting about max apertures would land me with the 17-40L
though, IS+f2.8 on the EF-S lens for another $NZ300 is worth the 4
stops it would give me.

I think I am leaning towards the 17-55.
