Sorry but the 200 1.8 did sell and sold very well to the fashion industry and wedding photographers. It is my understanding that canon dropped it as they could not do the IS upgrade with the rear elements being so close to the mirror. I have the lens and it is worth the purchase if you can find one used. Fact is that Nikon just released their version in the 200 f2. Leica has it in the 180 f2. Tested by Hasselblad the Canon 200 f1.8 was reported to be the finest 200mm made by any one ever- true or urban legend I don't know but for me I would rather shoot with it than the 70-200. I found mine about 2 yrs ago and paid a little over $2800 for it, this is one lens that will never leave the stable of glass I have. It does things to a background that can not be done with any other lens in that length.
