It is a "Tool", I make "Money" with my tools and there is not another lens
on the market that gives the same effect to backgrounds or is as sharp or
has the boken that this lens has. I would never have bought it with out
testing it and it tested like no other. I don't buy lenses for their sex
appeal but for their cash flow potential.
There are a lot of us who do pay a lot of attention to the top performers
in
our industry-they have a lot of life experience in this business, we learn
a
lot from them.
Yes it is heavy and no I do not let my assistant carry it around for me. I
goes in the gear bag and is protected and gotten out when needed. As to
stolen- I have a lot of other gear that cost more and would not want any of
it stolen. That is a chance that we all take, but with precautions can
limit
our chances of becoming a victim.
The other point is that this is not just a wedding lens, I use it all the
time for portrait work. Just had it to the beach this weekend to work with
a
couple and it was just the ticket

Dennis Reggie is a world famous wedding photographer (did all the

weddings-some of those images made Life magazine)
he said that he would not have wedding kit with out the 200 1.8
included.
As for my self (I also shoot weddings) I love the lens
for balcony shots during the wedding. with a 2x extender you now have a
400
3.6 and you can get right down on the couple-the brides
love it. I also use the lens for full length bridals, portraits of
children
(full length), candid shots of people at wedding receptions, etc.
Well not everybody is a world class wedding photog. Imagine how many
weddings a
regular photographer would have to shoot to pay for a EF200/1.8!
There's lots of alternatives to get to 200mm, and many are pretty cheap.
I
wouldn't pay too much attention to what Dennis is using, most are in it
to try
and make a few bucks, not collect cool lenses.
I know that it's one hell of a sexy lens. I've seen them on the auctions
used
going for very high prices. I think it's pretty damned heavy too, so the
assistant would have to carry it to and from the vehicle when needed. You
wouldn't want it to get bumped, lost, or stolen.
