Hi Jim, The average cost for an 8x10 print from my R2400 is about $1.00 for paper and ink including a waste rate of 25% (which is very high if you are well calibrated and profiled), but excluding the cost of the printer. I paid $800 for my R2400 and have so far printed in the neighborhood the equivalent of 1,200-1,300 8x10 images. If you add an additional 0.70 to the total cost of printing so far I'm paying about $1.70 for an 8x10 print with incredible color, detail and sharpness for which of course I have full control over. I also save a tremendous and inestimatable amount of time and money on trips back and forth to my pro lab in L.A. for the numerous correction and approvals needed to get nice prints made. I would say the costs involved in having complete control and being able to accept all complements myself for high quality prints is well worth the effort not to mention the time and money savings vs. using a pro lab for the prints I have a printer large enough to produce myself. Really, if you are printing much at all a decent printer is worth more than the cost of the ink, paper, printer and your time and certainly cheaper in terms of the time and multiple trips often needed to get the best print quality out of even the best pro labs. I'd say it is a wash and the images cost me almost nothing.
