MS 10.1 Pro is my last upgrade. I only use it for the search engine and to gen charts for printing/posting. Stopped playing the optimization game years back when I FINALLY wrote out my trading plan and rules and elected to focus on making money instead of fighting MS. For EOD equities I use HQuote. For anything RT I use MT4 and TOS. I have written all the MS indicators I use for MT4 and TOS. Heck, even freestockcharts.com will do almost everything I need. Just can not set the exact alerts I like. But for a free package, why complain I am a coder so I have been able to duplicate the "proprietary" indicators I use. My biggest gripe is MS core platform is stuck in the 80s. I do not need 600 indicators or 200 extra cost add-ons. How hard can it be to get the data values the disappear off the left side of the screen to display on the right. Or even stop from dropping indicators when the displayed data is not in range any longer. I use a multi-time-frame approach. Hate it when I put a fib on a weekly/monthly and lose it when I am on the daily. Was at a demo of TC2000 a few weeks back, a little better, but not worth the time & money to switch. MS is doing a dog & pony near me in a few weeks, I am planning to attend with my list of pointed questions, Will have to see if the MS crew has taken the presentation course of politically correct evasive answering. Does anyone know if MS is offering the SDK for v12? If they are are, can be too hard to write an data updater for existing files. That is if you can get MS to install without the required MS datafeed. Or if it is even worth the time and effort.
D EGO Sum Qua EGO Sum Sempre Avanti "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, The creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, Its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.." --- Winston Churchill ________________________________ From: Roy Larsen <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Thursday, October 25, 2012 3:59 PM Subject: Re: [EquisMetaStock Group] MetaStock 12 EOD and Third Party Data Hi Chris MS 9.1 EOD is still my workhorse even though I now have versions 10.1, 11 and 12 installed too. Correction, 12 is only partially installed, and since I don't have a data subscription it refuses to complete loading MetaStock and is therefore quite useless. However, my main interest is in what new explorations, experts and indicators there are. At first glance it seems that the MS12FORM.DTA file contains exactly the same 250 odd base formulas that MS11 had - PREV functions all over the place in the formulas where the names start with MS11. It's disappointing that the Adaptive formulas still have all the bugs that were present on the release of MS 11. If you're wondering how I examine the contents of an MS 12 DTA file without running MS 12, it's simple enough to do. I copy the newer version formulas into MS 11, change the name of the old formulas so that they're not recognised any more, change the name of the new formulas introduced to MS 11 so they are recognised as MS 11 files, then start MS 11 and open the appropriate tool to see what formulas etc. are present. I went to http://www.metastock.com/ to look for MS 12 information.
