Hey Bob: I will step in for Syd. There are usually one or two Ercoupes for
sale at Sun & Fun, however, most often they have been converted to a D model
sometime in their past. You must be very careful when looking at one. There are
Many, Many out there that have been converted/flown as D models (1400 lb
gross) but do not have their registration/data plates changed.
The problem is the high empty weight (900 lbs or more) which does not
allow much useful load (even at the 1400 gross). Metalized wings along with 20
to 30 year old avionics add up quickly. Gyros and venturi's add even more.
The basic airplane without any interior furnishings or gyros/radios weighs
around 840 to 850 pounds.
