Besides what Lynn said, beware of "rush" situations when buying a plane. At a fly-in or convention, there's pressure to buy on the spot. But how can you * Get the FAA CD disk of all the paperwork and look through it for problems such as model D conversion? * Get a mechanic to do a good pre-purchase inspection? Those two things are, IMHO, essential to the airplane buying process and should never be skipped.
