To get a Sport Pilot rating, how do you find a CFI who can check you out?
I'm currently buying a 415C and EAA tells me there are only a dozen or so
check pilots for the contintental US. My Coupe-to-be is in TX, I'm in PA,

and the nearest Sport Pilot-rated check pilot is in OH. How do I get me
and
my lovely little princess to the checkpilot simultaneously without causing

the FAA to frown?

The only solution I've come up with is to try to get a local TX CFI, even
if
un SLA rated, to check ride me in the 415, then sign off my logbook for a
REALLY long solo cross-country. Technically, that's stretching the rules
until they almost snap, but I see no other way as the regs are now
written.

This problem is going to face any first-time Ercoupe owner who has no
Sport
Pilot rating, and I can see it happening all the time. A guy [or gal]
sees
a 'Coupe, falls in love with it on the spot [I have personal experience
with
that event], buys it, and now must get rated. [This may not happen very
often with spam-can drivers -- got that phrase from this web site: how
gloriously insulting! LOL!; but with these rudderless little darlings to
see one the first time is the Opening Of The Eyes!].

Does anyone else have a better answer? I sure hope so! All suggestions
will be gratefully appreciated.

R. Beeman
